I am a native Brazilian Portuguese teacher with over 10 years of experience in education, teaching children, teenagers and adults. I specialise in supporting students preparing for GCSE and A-Level Portuguese in the UK, helping them develop confidence in speaking, writing, reading and listening, as well as the exam skills needed to achieve their best results. I have also worked directly with UK schools conducting GCSE Portuguese speaking assessments, which has given me a strong understanding of the expectations and format of the examination. I currently teach GCSE and A-Level students and can provide support with exam preparation, speaking practice, essay writing, grammar, vocabulary and literary or film analysis for A-Level. I hold a Master’s degree in History from Universidade Federal Fluminense (Brazil) and have a strong academic and secondary-school teaching background. My lessons are structured but friendly, and I adapt them to each learner’s level, goals and areas of difficulty. Alongside exam preparation, I also teach Brazilian Portuguese to heritage speakers and learners who would like to improve their general fluency and confidence. My aim is to make Portuguese accessible and enjoyable while giving students the structure and personalised support they need to make real progress.

Bonjour, I’m CécileBB 👋🏽 I’m a bilingual French teacher helping adults take their French from pants to fancy-pants. I’m half French, half English and was born in Canada before settling in Yorkshire as a child. I studied French and Psychology at university, trained as a secondary-school languages teacher in 1996. Since 2012, I have been teaching French to adults. After years of learning and teaching languages, I know just how frustrating learning French as an adult can be. In one ear and out the other! My lessons focus on practical, everyday conversational French and, most importantly, building your confidence to actually use it. I explain grammar clearly and use humour, daft memory hooks, amusing visuals, sound effects and the occasional grimace to make tricky French easier to remember. My lessons are informal and entertaining, but they’re also carefully structured and progressively challenging. The idea is for you to experience that wonderful moment when a French sentence suddenly pops out of your mouth and you think, “Where did that come from?” I run small-group and 1:1 lessons via Zoom, from beginner to B2 level. Whether you regularly travel to French-speaking countries, have made your home in one or are simply learning French for the challenge, I’ll help you improve your French and build the confidence to just have a go, step by step. Learn French with me, CécileBB, and take your French from bof to oh là là ! 🇫🇷 I’ll be there to teach you, support you, encourage you and cheer you on. Merci beaucoup !

Hello, I’m Catherine. I’m a teacher of French and Italian and founder of LinguaThinking which provides complete GCSE, IGCSE and A Level courses in French and Italian, enabling students to access languages not offered by their school, or study an additional language alongside their other subjects. I also offer academic support and tuition for students already studying within a school setting and I really enjoy teaching languages to adults. Working with young linguists genuinely brings me a lot of joy. I love exploring the rich language, literature and culture of France and Italy alongside my students, and supporting them to develop confidence, critical thinking and analytical skills. I am always energised by the fresh perspectives that my students bring to our lessons. I’ve spent more than 20 years teaching languages, literature and culture across UK independent and state schools, at university level and at language schools and state schools in Europe. I hold a PhD and MPhil in Modern and Medieval Languages and Literature from the University of Cambridge, a First-Class BA in French and Italian and a PGCE in Modern Languages. I have taught European literature and translation to Cambridge undergraduates, as well as French and Italian from KS3 through to GCSE, IGCSE, A Level and IB. I have also worked as Head of Italian and held senior roles in the sixth form. Currently I work part time as Universities Coordinator, supporting students with higher education and competitive university applications, including Oxford and Cambridge – which means that I have an informed understanding of the thinking skills required to transition to higher level study, helping students to progress from GCSE and A-Level to university and beyond. I am, of course, always delighted to support applications in languages! My own academic background has taught me the value of thinking deeply and this informs all aspects of my teaching. I want students not simply to achieve excellent results, but to become thoughtful, confident and independent linguists, who can engage with the world around them. Critical thinking and close textual analysis are integral to my approach – I provide extensive support for essay writing and critical analysis, and I have longstanding experience of preparing students for oral examinations at GCSE and A Level. Please see website for further details about courses and academic support. Prices are higher for one to one A Level candidates. Teaching independently through LinguaThinking enables me to develop outreach work with universities and educational charities.

Hi, I’m Fran, a qualified Modern Foreign Languages teacher and the founder of Language Beyond Limits. I teach French and German to children, teenagers and adults, both online and in person from my base in Hagley, Worcestershire. I’ve been teaching languages for 8 years, including in secondary schools, as a private tutor and as a freelance language professional. I have a BA (Hons) in French Studies, a PGCE in Modern Languages and QTS, and I’ve taught French and German from primary level through to GCSE and A Level. I genuinely love languages and, for me, learning a language is about so much more than getting the right answer in a textbook. It’s about communication, confidence, culture and being able to actually use the language in real life. I particularly enjoy those moments when a learner suddenly realises they can say something they couldn’t say before! I work with a wide range of learners, from young children discovering their first foreign language to GCSE and A Level students, as well as adults learning for travel, work or simply because they’ve always wanted to speak another language. I also have a particular interest in supporting learners who find traditional classroom environments difficult. I have extensive experience working with learners with autism, ADHD, dyslexia and other specific learning needs, as well as anxiety and school avoidance. My lessons are friendly, flexible and adapted to the individual learner rather than expecting every student to learn in the same way. Whether you need help preparing for an exam, want to build your confidence speaking French, are returning to a language you learnt years ago, or simply want to enjoy learning something new, I’ll work with you to make the lessons relevant to your goals. Outside teaching, I love travelling and using my languages in real-life situations, reading, running and outdoor and cold-water swimming. I also have a particular love of animals and hope to return to volunteering with them when life is a little less busy! I’d love to help you discover that languages really can open up a whole world of possibilities. 🇫🇷 🇩🇪

Hello, my name is Katie and I live in London. I’m an enthusiastic and dedicated languages teacher looking to help all those requiring Spanish and Portuguese tuition. Languages are truly an obsession for me! Thanks to my trilingual family, I've spoken English, Spanish and Portuguese since childhood. I also studied languages as part of my undergraduate degree, obtaining a first class BA in History with Spanish and Portuguese. After graduation, I spent a decade working as a lawyer in London, during which time I used my language skills numerous times in a translation and interpretation context. However, in 2018 I decided to return to my language roots full-time, retraining and qualifying as a modern foreign languages teacher. Upon qualification, I spent 3 years teaching Spanish to secondary school students in London. I then left to focus on my private tutoring career, and have since been tutoring a diverse range of students in terms of age and language experience. In recent years, I have also acted as a Spanish and Portuguese speaking examiner for GCSE and A Level students across a number of exam boards, working for both individual schools and larger exam centres. My students shape the style of my classes and I always design them taking into account the strengths, objectives and interests of each individual. My classes are fun, interactive and relaxed but I always have in mind the precise objects of my students in relation to their learning needs. My main aim as a tutor is to provide an open and encouraging space in which my students can practise and improve their linguistic skills. Whether you're looking for formal public exam practice or simply someone with whom to practise your conversation skills, I am ready and available to help!

Hello!  I am Kenia.  I have been a language teacher for over 20 years in primary and secondary schools in France, USA and Japan and running my own online language courses in Ireland and in the UK.  I am also a home educator and Languages with Kenia started as labour of love.  I wanted my children to embrace their heritage language (Spanish) and to encourage them to learn other languages.  Now they are completely bilingual in English and Spanish and actively continue to learn other languages.  I grew up bilingual myself, speaking Spanish and English at home as a young child.  I learnt French as a young teenager and Japanese as a young adult.  In addition to being a language teacher I am also a qualified interpreter and translator.  I have a postgraduate diploma in interpreting and translation (Spanish-English retour).  I also have a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and in French and a TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) certification.  I have lived in France where I taught English in a secondary school and in the USA where I taught ESL (English as a Second Language) and Spanish as a heritage language in primary schools.  As part of my role as a language instructor in the USA, I also acted as an interpreter and translator for the school community.  I studied Japanese as part of my Linguistics degree and also while living in Japan, where I spent three years teaching English in senior high schools.  I also worked at Financial Section of the Japanese Embassy in London for two years where I help my department liaise with various UK government agencies.   My approach to language teaching is to provide students with language that is relevant to their lives and goals.  Whether they are beginner or advanced, I cover topics that get them excited about learning languages and about other cultures.  In every session, my students will be able to practise speaking, listening, reading and writing.  At the GCSE/IGCSE level, I have helped students prepare for examinations with major exam boards Edexcel, AQA and Cambridge. I have a 100% pass rate with 80% of my students earning a score of 7 and above. SEN students are always welcome.  I have an enhanced DBS certificate.

Ciao/Bonjour! I passionately want all learners of Italian and French to love these beautiful languages as much as I do! I set up Ruth Spence Languages seven years ago so that I could share my expertise and enthusiasm with like-minded adults in Bristol and online. My degree is in French with Italian and my love for both countries blossomed during the year I spent working in the south of France and then after my degree teaching English to professionals in Rome. I gained a PGCE in Primary Education (Later Years) in 1997 and then taught in primary schools for years which gave me a strong foundation in all aspects of understanding how people learn. Demand for Italian lessons is huge here in Bristol so I'm currently teaching 9 classes of Italian (8 in-person and one online) and one Zoom French class. I mainly teach group classes at the very reasonable rate of £15 per person for the hour session. I'm convinced that we learn better with a supportive community around us. With that in mind, I regularly hold social events such as aperitivo evenings, quiz nights and trips to a lovely independent cinema here in Bristol all of which are always hugely popular.

Bonjour! I’m Sandra, a native French teacher from Metz in north-east France, now based in Scotland. I have 17 years’ experience teaching French to children and teenagers, and I’m passionate about helping young people become confident French speakers. My teen classes are friendly, supportive and interactive, with a strong focus on my 3 Cs: Communication • Conversation • Confidence I help teenagers move beyond simply learning vocabulary and grammar to actually using French with confidence, while supporting and complementing the French they learn at school. And French doesn’t just stay on the screen! We bring the language to life through fun, practical experiences, including online shopping activities and French Bake-Alongs. Pupils based in Scotland can also have the opportunity to join us for our end-of-term shopping experience and French restaurant outings, putting their French into practice in real-life situations. My pupils have achieved excellent results, including A grades at National 5 and Higher French, with 100% of my 2026 exam entrants achieving the top grade. Classes are deliberately kept small so every learner has plenty of opportunities to participate, speak French and receive individual attention. Whether your teenager needs more confidence, extra support alongside school, greater speaking practice or wants to take their French further, my aim is to help them reach the point where they can proudly say: “I CAN speak French!”

I have been teaching Japanese at secondary schools in the UK for 20 years including teaching GCSE Japanese and A-level Japanese. I have also taught introductory Japanese lessons at primary schools. I have a little experience teaching German too, mainly to Key Stage 3 level in secondary schools. I have lived and worked in Japan teaching English to school children from primary level up to senior high school level, as well as teaching English classes for adult learners. So my teaching experience covers a variety of age ranges. Having lived in Japan and having taught the language for two decades, I especially enjoy teaching about Japan's amazing culture!

I am an experienced language teacher with over 30 years of teaching experience, including more than 20 years in Bulgaria and many years teaching in the UK. I teach English, French and Spanish to adults and students, both online and in person. My approach is practical, supportive and learner-centred. I believe that lessons should give students plenty of opportunities to speak, use the language in realistic situations and build confidence step by step. I adapt my lessons to each learner’s level, goals, interests and learning needs rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach. I use a combination of conversation, structured grammar and vocabulary practice, pronunciation work, listening and reading activities, and authentic or real-life materials. I also use visual resources, interactive activities and carefully planned repetition where helpful, particularly when learners need to consolidate new vocabulary and language structures. I have taught French and Spanish in secondary schools for several years and have extensive experience preparing students for GCSE French and Spanish examinations. For the past few years, I have worked specifically with students preparing for their GCSE exams, developing a structured approach that covers the key skills required for successful examination performance. My students have consistently achieved excellent results, including the highest grades they were aiming for. I have also supported a student preparing for A-level French. My exam preparation combines a clear understanding of the examination requirements with targeted practice in speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary. I identify areas that need improvement, establish a structured programme and work systematically towards the student's target grade. For adults, I can help with general English, everyday communication, Business English and improving confidence in speaking. Whether you are starting a language from scratch, preparing for an examination or looking to improve an existing level, my aim is to make lessons useful, engaging and encouraging, while helping you become a more confident and independent language user.
